After twenty-five years of living in the city, Jurgen Onland returned with his family to a rural village much like the one where he grew up. Although the landscape felt familiar, so did the unsettling feeling of being an outsider. Rather than searching for answers, he began to walk. Through quiet roads, woodland edges, open fields, and overlooked places, he discovered that landscapes hold more than physical traces—they also carry memory, emotion, and the stories we leave behind.
The photographs reveal places where human presence is sensed rather than seen. Interwoven with these landscapes are self-portraits that quietly explore the artist's own relationship with a place that feels both deeply familiar and strangely distant.
